A man with glasses and curly hair, wearing a white T-shirt and white pants, is standing on a lofted platform with a metal railing, holding some papers, inside an industrial-style building. In the background, other people are seen walking and working, with tables and shelves holding various items.

  • James occasionally crawls out of the setting cupboard when it's time to do a slab workshop or technique workshop. James is one of the owners and is the head setter of Rise. His favourite thing to climb is slab (surprise surprise), and his least favourite thing to climb are steep power boulders.
His favourite hold is a salmon coloured EP crimp, and he is working on improving his volume running.

James

Conor

  • Conor is the co-owner of Rise and has been climbing for longer than you’ve been alive (maybe). He spent several years on the Castle Youth Climbing team. He’s a true board specialist, focusing on body tension and footwork on steep terraine.

Happy to coach all levels, would add more value on the board.

A young man with curly hair and a beard standing outdoors near rocky terrain, holding a bottle in his right hand. He is dressed in a t-shirt and dark pants, and appears to be looking down, possibly resting or contemplating.

Jaycee

  • Ajay has been climbing for nearly 7 years now. He started indoors like most people but his main focus lately is climbing outdoors as much as the weather allows. He loves finding projects that are too difficult for him because they often have a lot of micro betas. Finding these little nuances that make climbs more doable is his favourite thing about climbing (could probably talk about beta for hours with anyone). Ajay would be best at overhanging powerful climbs and not that good at climbing slabs. He can work with anyone as long as they don’t mind him talking a lot lol. He’s got a history of training such as board climbing but also off the wall conditioning so can give lots of tips on that too!

A person standing on a branch of a tree at night, with sleeping bags and camping gear on the ground underneath.
A man with a shaved head and tattoos on his arm climbing on a rock formation with climbing shoes. The ground is rocky with a large boulder, and a blue crash pad is visible at the bottom of the image.
  • Chris has been on walls and rocks for almost a decade now cus that’s how old he is. He loves his techy climbs, twisting all over the place and being a massive fan of anime, which doesn’t help much with climbing, but does help with funding his climbing. He has been running Rise improver sessions since Jan 2025 and coaching since 2021.

Happy to coach all levels from beginner to sending that v8 and beyond.

  • Jaycee has been climbing for 18 years now, and still gets that same buzz from it as he did when he first stepped into a gym at 18. These days he works up to V10, but grades have never really been the point for him; what he truly loves is watching people around him grow, get stronger, and have a blast doing it. Whether you're just starting out or looking to push past a plateau, Jaycee can help you figure it out and enjoy every move along the way.

A session with Jaycee is made with 3 to 4 parts, depending on trainee’s level:

    - assessment (discussion + strength/weakness tests)

    - warm-up, technique

    - climbing with feedback and movement explorations

    - cool down, conditioning (not applicable for climbers below v3/4)

Finally, I always send an email or IG message with some exercises and tips after the session.

An initial session with Jaycee is 2 hours. Follow-up sessions can be either 1 or 2 hours depending on your preference.
